Post-Harvest Bogs

Here’s what I jokingly call Bog Lake, the bog for a couple of days after the harvest, as the waters flow back naturally into Wing Pond. Very quiet and peaceful, unlike the roar from machinery during the few harvest days.

I’ve heard the bog manager say that the number of dogs running loose here since the lockdown, without proper cleanup, are the worst problem the bogs have had in many decades. Clean up after your pooches, dog parents! Keep our bogs safe.

Election evening 2020, is the universe sending a message? What is it?

Chilly cranberry harvest, West Falmouth 2020

Workers are corralling the berries prior to moving them into the truck. You can also see how the water from the westerly bog is pumped into this bog (and all originate from adjacent Wing Pond). This is the oldest continuously harvested bog in MA, going back to the 1800’s. Love seeing this every year!

Cranberry Harvest Starting

Handy Cranberry Trust brought the propane in this week to power the pump that moves the water from Wing Pond to the bog, to flood it for the harvest that will take place any day now. Take a look!
